La Biennale di Venezia and the Google Cultural Institute

Thursday, October 13th 2016, La Biennale di Venezia and Google Cultural Institute have renewed their collaboration to make the 15th International Architecture Exhibition “Reporting from the front”, curated by Alejandro Aravena, fully available on Google Arts and Culture.

The National Pavilion of Yemen is present along with 42 other National Participations and 11 Collateral Events.

The Yemeni participation offers a fascinating journey through the current state of the unique, sophisticated and impressive vernacular architecture of the country’s different regions. Due to the ongoing war the Yemeni Cultural heritage sites are unfortunately still in danger.

On the online platform pictures and video’s give an impression of the wise craftsmanship of Yemeni master builders, which survived the modern development and keeps on shaping the national landscapes and the country’s cultural identity.

The Yemeni participation was initiated by the Beautiful Yemen Team but could only be realized thanks to the trust of the Ministry of Culture in Yemen and The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Yemen. Also the close cooperation with the Istituto Veneto Per I Beni Culturali, whose director was appointed as the curator of the Yemen Pavilion, was crucial for the Yemen representation at the Biennale Architettura 2016.
